On Wednesday, South Africa's national football team, Bafana Bafana, achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the World Cup knockout stage for the first time after defeating South Korea 1-0. The victory was marked by Thapelo Maseko's decisive second-half strike.

This win allowed South Africa to finish second in their group, behind co-host Mexico, with a perfect record of three wins. Coach Hugo Broos, who has been at the helm since 2021, expressed pride in his team's performance, stating that they answered critics who doubted their capabilities.
