Military Source Claims Suppression of Boko Haram Reports

A military source disclosed that Nigerian Army officials were allegedly directed to refrain from disclosing information regarding Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks, reportedly due to the political implications ahead of the 2027 general elections. This revelation comes in the wake of a deadly attack in Yobe State, where at least 36 security personnel, including 17 mobile police officers and 10 soldiers, were killed during a coordinated assault on military facilities in the Gujba local government area.

The attack occurred late Thursday night into Friday morning when Boko Haram insurgents targeted a training center in Buni Gari, the hometown of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni. The military source indicated that the incident was one of the deadliest in the region, prompting a crackdown on soldiers suspected of leaking information to the media.

The source further claimed that threats were issued against soldiers who spoke to journalists about the attacks.
