INEC Chairman Pledges Transparent Elections and Reforms in Nigeria

Joash Amupitan, the newly confirmed Chairman of INEC, promises to make Nigerian elections more transparent and credible, aiming for wide acceptance and goodwill even from losing candidates. He plans to audit systems, implement reforms, and strengthen accountability mechanisms to ensure every vote counts.

Amupitan, a law professor and former deputy vice chancellor, outlined a roadmap for electoral reforms, including the establishment of an ethics compliance committee and a whistleblowing policy. He emphasized collaboration with the National Assembly to combat electoral offenses.

Amupitan's nomination was unanimously approved after facing questions on electoral laws and neutrality, dismissing claims of bias towards Bola Tinubu. The upcoming elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun states will be a test of INEC's commitment to credible and transparent elections.
