Rice Prices in Nigeria Vary Across Regions in May 2026

In the first week of May 2026, the retail price of a 50-kilogram bag of rice in Nigeria showed notable variation across the six geopolitical zones, ranging from N53,000 to N82,000. The North Central region had the lowest price at N53,000 to N55,500, while the South South region recorded the highest prices between N55,500 and N82,000.

This price variation reflects improvements in domestic supply and stabilization in the foreign exchange market. In Abuja, prices have decreased significantly from N80,000 to N85,000 in May 2025 to the current range, attributed to better access to supply corridors from major rice-producing states like Niger, Benue, and Kogi.

In Lagos, the price ranges from N55,000 to N65,000, while in Kaduna, it averages N60,000. The North East region, represented by Bauchi, shows prices between N60,000 and N61,500, down from N80,000 to N90,000 in May 2025.

The South East region, particularly Imo, has not been detailed in price but is noted for high operational costs affecting distribution.
