Deji Adeyanju Calls for Justice After 37 Miners' Deaths

Deji Adeyanju, a human rights lawyer and activist, condemned the deaths of 37 suspected miners, including alleged minors, while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State. He described the incident as unacceptable and a crime against humanity.

In a statement on his social media, Adeyanju questioned the medical attention the victims received and stated that anyone involved in unlawful acts, torture, deliberate mistreatment, or criminal negligence should be held accountable. He emphasized that the claim of a disease outbreak as the cause of death should not be accepted without a credible, independent, and transparent investigation.

Adeyanju demanded answers regarding the medical care provided to the miners when they first fell ill and insisted that those responsible for their deaths must face prosecution swiftly.
