WHO Warns of Health System Collapse Amid Iran Conflict

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarms regarding the humanitarian toll of the ongoing military offensive by the United States and Israel against Iran, where the death toll has reached 1,800 and over 12,500 individuals have been injured in less than two weeks. WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus stated that the health systems across the Middle East are under immense strain and are on the verge of total collapse as the conflict escalates, particularly following a joint U.S.-Israeli strike that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

The report indicates that Iran has suffered approximately 1,300 deaths and 9,000 injuries, while Lebanon has recorded at least 570 deaths and around 1,400 injuries. The crisis has displaced about 100,000 Iranians and 700,000 Lebanese citizens, forcing them to flee their homes under deteriorating conditions.

The WHO has documented numerous attacks on healthcare facilities, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian access and the protection of civilians under international law.
