Why 2024 Budget Implementation Was Extended – Senate

Senate spokesperson Senator Yemi Adaramodu explained the extension of the implementation period for the 2024 budget was necessary to prevent the abandonment of projects, especially capital projects. He emphasized that the National Assembly agreed on the extension to ensure ongoing projects are completed.

Adaramodu, who represents Ekiti South Senatorial District, addressed concerns about funds allocated to legislators for projects in their constituencies, clarifying that lawmakers do not collect money for projects. He highlighted the process where legislators nominate projects, which are then funded by relevant ministries or agencies for implementation.

Adaramodu also discussed the ongoing efforts to review the constitution, inviting input from various stakeholders, including elders, professionals, political leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, women's groups, CSOs, and Nigerians in the diaspora. The public hearing on the constitution aims to incorporate collective input from all segments of society.
