Seun Kuti: Afrobeats Not a Genre, But a Broad Music Label

Seun Kuti, in an interview with Beat Fm Lagos, emphasized that Afrobeats is not a genre but a label used to describe music from Africa. He explained that many artists under the Afrobeats umbrella experiment with different sounds, from dancehall to Nigerian pop and amapiano.

Kuti argued that Afrobeats functions more as a tag to identify African music in general rather than a fixed musical style. He highlighted the evolving nature of the term, comparing it to the trend of amapiano.

Kuti stressed that people should view Afrobeats as a broad title for identification rather than a strict genre classification.
