Femi Kuti, an Afrobeat musician and son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, discussed the family's decision to retain ownership of Fela's music catalog despite receiving multiple offers. In an interview with Channel Television, Femi emphasized that the family prioritizes protecting Fela's legacy over financial gain.

Instead of selling the catalog outright, they have opted to license the music temporarily, allowing them to maintain control over it. Femi revealed that his elder sister, Yeni Kuti, plays a decisive role in this matter, strongly opposing the sale of the catalog.

Yeni, as the eldest sibling, feels a responsibility to honor Fela's legacy and insists that the catalog should remain within the family. Femi expressed concerns that selling the catalog would result in no royalties for the family and conveyed optimism about the future, stating that they will continue to preserve Fela's legacy and uphold the values associated with his music.
