Rinsola Babajide Switches Allegiance to Nigeria Football

Rinsola Babajide, a former forward for Liverpool, has switched her international allegiance from England to Nigeria, motivated by a desire to reconnect with her heritage. Born in London, Babajide represented England at various youth levels and was part of the young Lionesses squad that clinched bronze at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

Despite earning several caps across different age grades and being invited to senior Lionesses training sessions, she did not achieve a senior international breakthrough with England. Babajide made her debut for Nigeria's Super Falcons during the Olympic qualifiers against Ethiopia in October 2023.

She has since been a key player in Nigeria's squad that won the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, marking her first major international tournament with the team. Babajide scored her first senior international goal during the group stage against Tunisia and expressed pride in her achievements, including her WAFCON medal, while also paying tribute to the late Liverpool player Diogo Jota.
