Femi Falana: New Tax Laws in Nigeria Delayed Due to Legitimacy Concerns

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana from Ekiti warned that the new tax laws in Nigeria cannot be enforced until legitimacy controversies are addressed by the federal government. President Bola Tinubu recently declared the implementation of the tax law from January 1, 2026.

Falana emphasized that the law cannot take effect until the legitimacy issues are resolved. Despite objections, the government plans to proceed with the implementation process, ensuring stakeholder involvement and due process.

The new tax law is designed to drive harmony and not increase taxes, according to President Tinubu's statement.
