Ex-INEC Commissioner Criticizes Nigeria's Readiness for Electronic Election Results Transmission

Former INEC Commissioner Mustapha Lecky stated that Nigeria is not ready for the electronic transmission of election results. He highlighted that the country lacks the necessary legal framework and technical infrastructure for real-time electronic transmission.

Lecky explained that while Nigeria conducts elections manually, the debate on instant transmission is misplaced. He emphasized that Nigeria has not adopted electronic voting and relies on manual counting at polling units before uploading results.

Lecky warned that pushing for instant transmission without adequate infrastructure could expose the electoral process to cyber risks, especially in a country with fragile digital resilience. He suggested that INEC should continue using its result-viewing portal and biometric voter accreditation system until they are perfected.
