FCT Minister Nyesom Wike predicts President Tinubu's re-election bid will succeed more easily in 2027 due to a divided opposition landscape.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election with less difficulty than he encountered in 2023. Speaking during an inspection of flood-affected communities in the FCT on Monday, Wike attributed this anticipated ease to fragmentation within opposition political parties, which he said would prevent them from mounting an effective coordinated challenge.

Wike characterised the 2023 election as a grueling contest for Tinubu but suggested that internal divisions among rival parties would work in the President's favour during the next cycle. He emphasised the importance of opposition parties strengthening their unity and institutional capacity to present a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

In separate remarks, Wike also addressed the APC's recent loss in the Osun State governorship election, where challenger Ademola Adeleke defeated the ruling party's candidate Bola Oyebamiji with 511,067 votes to 444,815 votes. Wike attributed the defeat to the Federal Government's decision not to deploy its full political resources during the campaign, suggesting that had the administration mobilised its machinery completely, the outcome could have differed.

These comments from Wike, a prominent member of the Tinubu administration, come as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential race. The minister's remarks also reflect internal APC assessments of party performance in recent off-cycle elections and broader strategic calculations about the political terrain ahead.
