WIMBIZ Condemns Delta Festival Sexual Assault Incident

WIMBIZ, an organization advocating for women's rights, strongly condemned a recent sexual assault incident that occurred during the Ozoro festival in Delta State on March 19. The organization described the attack as unacceptable and reflective of deeper societal issues regarding gender-based violence.

WIMBIZ highlighted that such incidents are not isolated but part of a broader cultural and structural challenge faced nationwide. The group called on government, community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and civil society organizations to collaborate in ensuring women's safety and dignity.

They stressed the importance of long-term legal reforms, particularly the passage of a gender equal opportunity bill by the National Assembly, to establish a legal framework that protects women and shifts societal norms towards zero tolerance for gender-based violence.
