Lindsey Vonn Reveals Near-Leg Amputation After Crash

Lindsey Vonn, a prominent American skiing star, disclosed that she nearly lost her leg following a serious crash during the women's downhill event at the Winter Olympics in Italy on February 8. Vonn, 41, experienced extreme pain and faced significant challenges in her career due to the injury.

She expressed gratitude to the doctors who saved her leg, describing the injury as excruciating. Vonn underwent four surgeries in Italy, including an emergency fasciotomy to relieve pressure caused by compartment syndrome, which restricts blood flow to the muscles.

After her surgeries, she was discharged from the hospital and moved to a hotel, marking a significant step in her recovery. Vonn suffered a complex tibia fracture in her left leg and a broken ankle when she struck a gate during her second downhill run, leading to her being airlifted off the piste.
