Woman Faces Court Over N42.3m Fraud in Lagos

Chinwendu Fidelia Ohanebo was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Wednesday over an alleged fraud amounting to N42.3 million. The charges against her include obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing by conversion.

Ohanebo is accused of defrauding Musa Muhammed Jidda in 2025 by claiming she would supply 45 litres of Premium Motor Spirit at N941 per litre, subsequently converting the N42,345,000 received for her personal use. During the proceedings presided over by Justice M.A.

Lawal, Ohanebo pleaded guilty to the first count of obtaining money under false pretenses but not guilty to the second count of dishonest conversion. The prosecution, represented by H.U.

Kofarnaisa, requested an adjournment to begin the trial on the second count. The judge adjourned the case for a review of facts on the first count and ordered Ohanebo to be remanded in a correctional facility until the continuation of the proceedings.
