Ten African Stars Shine at 2026 FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded with Spain defeating Argentina 1-0 to win the trophy. FIFA recognized ten African players who made notable contributions during the tournament.

Cape Verde’s Vozinha was highlighted for his exceptional saves, including denying Spain a win. Yan Diomande from Ivory Coast showcased explosive pace as a winger for RB Leipzig.

Amad Diallo, also from Ivory Coast and playing for Manchester United, helped his team reach the Round of 16. Azzedine Ounahi and Ismael Saibari from Morocco played pivotal roles, with Ounahi scoring twice against Canada and Saibari becoming the first CAF player to score in all three group-stage matches.

Senegal's Ismaila Sarr ended the tournament as Africa’s top scorer with four goals. Pape Gueye, another Senegalese player from Villarreal, scored a brace against Iraq.

Mostafa Shobeir from Egypt made impressive saves, including a penalty save against Argentina. Yoane Wissa from DR Congo scored a brace to advance his team, while Ibrahim Maza from Algeria excelled as a dribbler.
