Scholes Critiques Ronaldo's Role at 41 in Portugal Draw

Paul Scholes criticized Cristiano Ronaldo's role as a striker for the Portugal National Team at the age of 41, stating that he should only be playing as a goalkeeper. This remark came after Portugal's opening group stage match against DR Congo, which ended in a draw.

Despite Ronaldo's participation, he did not create any scoring opportunities or successfully dribble past opponents during the match. Scholes, speaking on the "Good Bad Football" podcast, expressed concern about Ronaldo's effectiveness on the field, especially as the team struggled to find a central forward.

He noted that while Ronaldo is a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, his age has affected his performance, particularly when compared to younger players like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. Scholes also mentioned that the current Portugal squad, managed by Roberto Martinez, has talent but is lacking in a standout central forward.
