World Cup qualifiers: Rohr urges FIFA to penalize South Africa with 3 points deduction

Former Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr has called on FIFA to penalize South Africa with a three-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player during the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in March. South Africa played Teboho Mokoena, who was meant to be suspended for the match.

Rohr, currently the head coach of the national football team of Benin Republic in Group C alongside Nigeria, Rwanda, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe, emphasized the need for FIFA to address the situation promptly. He stated that South Africa must lose the three points and three goals to their opponent, Lesotho.

Rohr expressed surprise at FIFA's delay in resolving the matter and highlighted the importance of a swift resolution. South Africa currently leads the group with 13 points, followed by Rwanda with 8 points, Benin Republic with 7 points, and Nigeria with 4 games left in the qualifiers scheduled for September.
