WTO Reform Talks in Yaoundé Encounter Major Challenges

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is currently facing hurdles in reform discussions taking place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, as global tensions, particularly the U.S.-Israel conflict and disruptions in energy supplies, threaten economic stability worldwide. The four-day gathering of trade ministers is critical, occurring at a juncture where the WTO, established in 1995, is struggling to adapt to modern trade realities.

Diplomatic officials have indicated that there is a lack of consensus on a clear roadmap for reform, with divisions among member states regarding the support for reform and the need for alternative mechanisms to set trade rules. WTO Director-General Dr.
