Peter Obi Addresses Xenophobic Attacks in South Africa

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 elections, visited South Africa to address the ongoing xenophobic attacks against Nigerians. During his visit, he sought to engage with South African officials, including Leon Schreiber, the Minister of Home Affairs, and Velenkosini Hlabisa, the Minister of Cooperative Governance, to discuss the aggression faced by Nigerian citizens in South Africa.

The discussions also involved Gayton McKenzie, the Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, focusing on the economic strains and youth unemployment contributing to rising tensions regarding immigration. Obi questioned the Nigerian government's commitment to its citizens, particularly in light of Ghana's successful evacuation of its citizens from South Africa, and criticized the Foreign Affairs Ministry's lack of action.

He highlighted the need for intervention, especially in the absence of Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was expected to play a role in addressing the crisis.
