Yobe Court Acquits Man of Minor Assault Charges

On Friday, a Chief Magistrate's Court in Damaturu, Yobe State, discharged and acquitted a man named Uch, who was accused of minor assault against a girl. The case, marked as YB DT CMC 19/2021, was instituted by the police, charging Uch with a crime involving the intent to outrage the modesty of the girl, an offense punishable under Section 268 of the Penal Code.

The prosecution, led by M.H. Muhammad, presented its case against the accused, while the defense counsel, S.S.

Karasuwa, urged the court to dismiss the charges due to lack of merit. The presiding Chief Magistrate, Moham Bilyaminu, ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against Uch, justifying the dismissal of the charges.

The court found the evidence presented to be insufficient to warrant further proceedings, leading to the striking out of the case and Uch's discharge from the allegations made against him in 2021.
