Wike Warns Kuje Chairman-elect on Community Engagement

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, issued a warning to the newly elected chairman of Kuje, Shekwolo, during a visit to Kuje following the February 21 area council elections. Wike advised the chairman-elect to remain accessible to the residents and avoid distancing himself from the community, as the real test of leadership begins when elected officials gain access to public resources.

He emphasized that humility and discipline are crucial for public officials, especially after a campaign period. Wike criticized the outgoing council chairman for allegedly withdrawing support from the chairman-elect shortly before the elections and highlighted the need for Shekwolo to maintain strong grassroots connections to avoid losing political backing.

He reiterated the federal government's commitment to infrastructure development in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly in Kuje, and mentioned ongoing major road projects, including the completion of the Garag road project and progress on the Kuje-Gwagwalada road.
