Youth Groups Demand Visionary Leadership for NBBF Election
The Students Sports Federation of Nigeria (SSFON) and the Amalgamation of Regional Youth Organisations of Nigeria (ARYON) have jointly called for the repositioning of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) in a statement signed by Comrade Ibrahim A. Abdullahi and Comrade Anthony Danjuma W.
They urged delegates to elect leaders with innovative ideas and the capacity to foster sustainable development in Nigerian basketball ahead of the NBBF election scheduled for October 15. The groups emphasized that the NBBF, as a public institution, should be led by individuals demonstrating vision, competence, integrity, and a commitment to progress.
They criticized the portrayal of younger aspirants as “outsiders” and stressed the importance of generational renewal. Key priorities identified include structured administration, grassroots development, and improved athlete welfare.
The organizations called for a focus on candidates' practical records and rejected the notion that professional engagements should disqualify aspirants from leadership roles.
