Airstrike in Zamfara Market Kills 117 Civilians, Claims Reports

An airstrike conducted by the Nigerian Air Force in Tumfa Market, located in the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has resulted in the reported deaths of 117 civilians, primarily women and children, shortly after terrorists arrived at the market. Witness Malam Haruna Lawali stated that the attack occurred as armed bandits were selling livestock and food.

Local sources indicated that 100 others were injured, while the Defence Headquarters, represented by Major General Michael Onoja, refuted claims of civilian casualties, asserting that the operation adhered to international humanitarian law and targeted high-level militant leaders. The Northern Senate Forum, led by Abdulaziz Musa Yar Adua, has called for a thorough investigation into the airstrike, emphasizing the need for transparency and justice for the victims' families.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of civilians in the region, with local residents pleading for government assistance for the injured.
