Zamfara Troops Stop Abduction Plot, Free Nine Civilians

Joint Task Force North West stopped a terrorist kidnapping attempt in Kaura Namoda, rescuing nine people including an infant on August 16.
On Sunday, August 16, military personnel deployed under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, part of the Joint Task Force North West, stopped a kidnapping plot targeting Unguwar Rogo village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State. During this intervention, nine individuals were brought to safety by the troops, including a young child.
After receiving an emergency alert about armed members who had infiltrated the community and were attacking people travelling through the area, the operation was launched. According to remarks made by military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the attackers apparently operated under direction from someone identified as Mallam Shuaibu.
Intelligence reports suggested the kidnapping operation might have represented payback for the earlier capture of suspected collaborators aiding the militant network. What prompted those arrests or the full sequence leading to the rescue remained undisclosed in the military's statement.
This successful action forms part of broader efforts across Zamfara and surrounding north-western zones to reduce militant activities. Communities throughout the region face ongoing threats from armed groups engaged in abductions and violent raids, driving authorities to expand troop presence and implement coordinated defence approaches across several states.
The nine rescued civilians have not been named in any public statements. Details regarding whether armed group members were taken into custody, casualty figures, or extent of damage resulting from the confrontation were not made available by the military.
