Tinubu State Police Bill Assent

The National Assembly has sent a bill to President Bola Tinubu for assent to establish state police after receiving approval from 30 state assemblies, exceeding the required two-thirds majority. The amendment aims to decentralize policing in Nigeria.

The Senate has set a November 15 deadline for six state Houses of Assembly to approve the establishment of state police. With 30 assemblies already in favor, failure to respond will be seen as withholding approval.

The National Assembly has transmitted the State Police Bill to President Tinubu for assent after 29 State Houses of Assembly approved the constitutional amendment, surpassing the required two-thirds majority. This bill aims to allow states to establish their own police forces.
