Ten Cameroonians Arrested in Lagos for Human Trafficking

The Lagos State Police Command arrested ten Cameroonians, comprising five men and five women, for alleged involvement in a human trafficking and visa fraud scheme. The suspects were taken into custody following intelligence-led investigations into a network accused of deceiving victims with false promises of overseas job opportunities, including visas and work permits for countries such as Mauritius, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Victims reportedly paid substantial sums for travel document processing fees, with one victim claiming to have paid 800,000 CFA francs (approximately N2 million) for a Mauritius visa. Upon arrival in Lagos, she was briefly accommodated in a hotel before being compelled to recruit others into the scheme.

The police discovered that several suspects did not possess valid travel documents, raising concerns about their immigration status in Nigeria. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Dayo Akinbisehin.
