Gombe Women Graduate as Certified Truck Drivers

On Thursday, at the Ashaka Cement Plant in Gombe State, 15 women graduated as certified truck drivers after completing a six-month training program initiated by Lafarge Africa PLC. This program, known as "Women on Wheels," aims to expand opportunities for women in Nigeria's male-dominated logistics sector.

The graduation ceremony included the formal induction of the graduates, who are beneficiaries of the training designed to address the shortage of skilled drivers and promote gender inclusivity while improving safety standards in the transport and construction value chain. Gombe State Deputy Governor Mannasseh Jatau commended Lafarge Africa for its initiative, highlighting the program's role in empowering youth and women and creating opportunities for underrepresented groups.

Lolu Alad Akinyemi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa, described the graduation as a milestone in the company's efforts to build an inclusive workforce. Judith Baka, a representative of the graduates, expressed gratitude for the life-changing opportunity provided by the program.
