1970s Juju musician, Ahuja Bello, is dead

Renowned Juju musician Ahuja Bello, known for his energetic performances and hit albums in the 1970s and 1980s, has passed away at the age of 83. His daughter, Bello Festus Aderemi, confirmed his death on Monday, the same day he was celebrating his 83rd birthday.

Born Ismaila Dele Bello in 1942 in Oyo State, Ahuja Bello rose to prominence with his band, Ahuja Bello Golden Eagles Band. He was not only a respected figure in the Nigerian Juju music scene but also traveled to London to record and befriended reggae star Bob Marley.

Despite a serious accident in 1982 that interrupted his flourishing career, Ahuja Bello's influence on Juju music endures, and he is remembered fondly by fans and fellow musicians.
