Defendants Admit Knowledge of Coup Plot Against Tinubu

In a Federal High Court in Abuja, three defendants, Erasmus Ochegobia, a retired Navy captain, and two others, admitted to having knowledge of an alleged coup plot against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The admissions were made during the playback of video recordings presented by the prosecution.

Ochegobia acknowledged awareness of the plot and discussed financial support for the coup, while expressing regret for not reporting it. He mentioned a conversation with a Colonel Ma Aji about overthrowing the government and admitted to receiving funds ranging from N1.4 million to N1.5 million for reconnaissance around the presidential villa.

Inspector Ibrahim, a police officer, also admitted to receiving funds and discussed plans to facilitate the coup but later shifted his stance, stating he did not believe the plan would succeed. In contrast, Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, a retired major general, denied any involvement in the coup plot, stating he had been living a quiet life since retiring from the Nigerian Army in 2010.

The case has been adjourned until Tuesday, May 5.
