Taraba Senators Defect to APC, Impact Senate Composition

In a significant political development, two senators from Taraba State, Manu representing Taraba Central Senatorial District and Lau representing Taraba North, have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The senators communicated their decision via separate letters read by Senator Godswil Akpabio during a plenary session.

Manu cited the need for change due to the PDP's internal crisis, aligning himself with the APC to better serve his constituents and contribute to national development. Lau also expressed concerns over the PDP's direction and believed that joining the APC would align with his values and vision for progress.

This move affects the Senate's composition, with the APC now having 80 senators, PDP 21, Labour Party (LP) 3, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 2, and New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) 2. Additionally, two senatorial seats are vacant due to the demise of Senators Okechukwu Ezea and Godiya Akwashiki in Enugu North and Nasarawa North respectively.
