ASUU Warns Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa on 2025 Agreement Compliance

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a warning to the governments of Kano, Kaduna, and Jigawa states regarding their failure to implement the 2025 federal agreement concerning state-owned universities. During a press briefing at Bayero University Kano on Wednesday, zonal coordinator Comrade Abdulrazaq Ibrahim condemned the state governments' inaction, which has led to delays in fulfilling obligations such as salary payments and pension contributions.

ASUU noted that while the federal government has begun implementing parts of the agreement for federal universities, state-owned institutions in the Kano zone, including Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Kaduna State University, have not fully complied. The union called on the state governments to respect the agreement to avoid industrial action, emphasizing that failure to do so would disrupt academic activities and harm the educational future of thousands of students.

ASUU also expressed concerns about Nigeria's worsening security and economic challenges impacting the education sector.
