ASUU Threatens Strike Over Unimplemented 2025 Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a warning of a potential strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 agreement by state-owned universities in Kano, Kaduna, and Jigawa. During a press conference in Kano on Wednesday, zonal coordinator Comrade Abdulrazaq Ibrahim expressed that the union's patience has been stretched after years of negotiations.

He called for immediate and expedited compliance with the provisions of the agreement signed after eight years of negotiations. The agreement includes payment of salary arrears and the consolidation of academic tools.

ASUU criticized the federal government for withholding three and a half months of salaries during a nationwide strike and raised concerns about pension remittances and welfare issues. The union also cautioned university bursars against imposing taxes contrary to the agreement.

ASUU urged parents, students, and civil society organizations to pressure the state governments to implement the agreement, warning that continued failure could disrupt the academic calendar.
