FG Plans May 2026 Launch for Lagos-Calabar Highway

The Federal Government of Nigeria is targeting May 2026 for the commissioning of Section One of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Minister of Works, David Umahi, provided this update during an inspection tour on Saturday, attributing the project's progress to the infrastructural drive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The construction, managed by a high-tech company, has successfully navigated engineering challenges, including soil conditions that required excavation depths exceeding 20 meters. Umahi noted that a three-kilometer stretch is nearing completion and will allow uninterrupted access for motorists once opened.

He raised concerns about vandalism along the route, including the cutting of metal fences and illegal dumping, warning that offenders would face arrest and prosecution. The minister also indicated that Section Two of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with a bridge across the section projected to finish by April next year.

Umahi emphasized the need for fiscal discipline and cautioned contractors against misusing advance payments.
