Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Section to Open May 2026

Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced that the first section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is scheduled to be commissioned by May 20, 2026. During an inspection on February 21, 2026, he emphasized the federal government's commitment to intensifying work on this strategic coastal corridor, which links Lagos to the South-South and South-East regions.

Despite facing difficult terrain and environmental challenges, including deep soil conditions reaching up to 20 meters, the project has made significant progress. Umahi praised Hitech Construction Company for its resilience and commitment to addressing unexpected soil discoveries without increasing project costs.

Currently, a 3-kilometer stretch is near completion, with expectations to conclude sub-fill work within days. Once opened, motorists will have seamless access from Ahmadu Bello to Lekki, extending towards the Dangote Refinery.

Umahi condemned vandalism along the corridor and highlighted the importance of infrastructure delivery in the Tinubu administration's broader reform agenda.
