IRIAD Calls for Support of Girls' Education and Rights

The Initiative for Research, Innovation and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD) has called on parents and families to support girls' education and development in recognition of the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC), themed “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights!” Princess Abijah Hamman-Obels, Director of The Electoral Hub, stated that the commemoration highlights practices that deny girls their childhood and future. She urged governments to go beyond commitments and enforce laws protecting girls from child marriage, violence, and exploitation.
Hamman-Obels called for investments in quality education, healthcare, social protection, and skills development. She emphasized that the Ministry of Education should create safe environments for girls to enter, remain in, and complete their education.
Additionally, she urged the Ministry of Women Affairs to strengthen programs that prevent child marriage and support at-risk girls and survivors, ensuring that girls' voices inform policies promoting their wellbeing and leadership.
