Sultan Urges Moon Sighting for 2026 Ramadan Start

The Sultan of Nigeria has issued a statement through the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), urging Muslims to look out for the new moon on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to determine the start of Ramadan. If the moon is sighted, Ramadan will commence on Wednesday, February 18, 2026; otherwise, fasting will begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The National Moon Sight Committee (NMSC) is collaborating with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to make official observations. In a related note, the Kaduna State Chairman of the Tomato Grower Processor Market Association of Nigeria has indicated that there may not be a significant price hike for tomatoes during the upcoming Ramadan fast.

This is attributed to a bumper harvest coinciding with the fasting period, unlike previous years when prices surged. The chairman shared these insights in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.
