Sultan of Sokoto Calls for Ramadan Moon Sighting Tuesday

The Sultan of Sokoto has officially requested Muslims to begin the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon on Tuesday. This directive was communicated through a statement signed by Salim Ashir Mahuta, the Wazirin Sokoto, who serves as the chairman of the advisory committee on religious affairs.

The Sultan has instructed village and district heads to report sightings promptly. Muslims are encouraged to observe the crescent moon at sunset on Tuesday and to communicate their findings to the Sultan Council using the provided contact numbers: 0803 715 7100, 0806 630 3077, 0803 596 5322, 0803 594 5903, and 0706 714 6900.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a significant period for Muslims worldwide, marked by fasting (sawm), communal prayers (salah), and reflection. It is believed that the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad during this month, which is observed as a vital component of the five pillars of Islam.

The sighting of the crescent moon will determine the start of Ramadan, which lasts for either 29 or 30 days.
