FG Urges Civil Servants to Enhance Performance for 2026

On May 1, 2026, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the head of the civil service, issued a message on Workers' Day, calling on civil servants across Nigeria to demonstrate greater professionalism and accountability. Walson-Jack noted the ongoing reforms within the civil service, including the increased adoption of digital innovations and performance management systems. She acknowledged the challenges faced by public servants, including long hours and personal sacrifices, and expressed appreciation for their commitment.

The message also highlighted initiatives by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improve civil servant welfare, such as the approval of an exit benefit scheme, a pension scheme for retirees, and a 10 billion naira housing loan scheme. Walson-Jack urged civil servants to reciprocate the government's efforts by improving their performance and maintaining a strong work ethic, stressing that Nigeria's progress depends on the effectiveness of the civil service.
