Algeria Eliminated from 2026 World Cup by Switzerland

Algeria was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup following a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in the Round of 32 on Friday. Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoy scored the goals that sent the Desert Foxes home, ending their tournament run.

This defeat makes Algeria the sixth African nation to be eliminated from the tournament, joining Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Tunisia, South Africa, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. With Algeria's exit, only four African teams remain in the competition, as they continue to seek advancement to the last 16.

Switzerland's victory also marks their first win in the tournament in 88 years. They will face either Ghana or Colombia in the next round.
