US Olympic Chief: 2026 World Cup to Test Fan Entry for LA 2028 Olympics

The head of the US Olympic Committee, Gene Syke, announced that the 2026 World Cup will be a trial run for the United States' ability to host spectators before the 2028 Los Angeles Games. This decision comes amidst preparations for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Games.

Syke addressed concerns about ticket holders obtaining visas, particularly in light of President Donald Trump's immigration policies. The Los Angeles Games, organized jointly with federal authorities, aim to streamline entry procedures for US athletes, support staff, and stakeholders.

Dagmawit Girmai Berhan, an Ethiopian IOC member, emphasized the need for equal opportunities for spectators. The US State Department is tasked with managing visa issues for Olympic attendees, with existing worries expressed by the host nations of the US, Mexico, and Canada.
