ADC Rejects High Campaign Fees in Abia for 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed strong opposition to the new campaign fees imposed by the Abia State Structure for Signage and Advertising Agency (ABSSAA). The agency announced fees of N200 million for presidential candidates and N150 million for governorship candidates, along with N150 million for Senatorial, N50 million for House of Representatives, and N20 million for House of Assembly candidates.

Kalu Kalu, the ADC Chairman in Abia State, questioned the justification for these exorbitant fees during a press conference in Aba, attended by ADC House of Assembly candidate for Arochukwu constituency, Francess Ogbonnaya Tabitha. Kalu stated that the fees contravene the Electoral Act's provisions on campaign expenditure limits and could adversely affect the chances of opposition candidates, undermining fair play in the upcoming 2027 elections.

He urged the Abia agency to reconsider and reduce the fees to acceptable levels, emphasizing the need to comply with the Electoral Act. The agency, however, maintained that its advertising policy does not discriminate against any political party.
