AGF Malami and Jonathan Seek Dismissal of Eligibility Suit

On Monday, Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, joined former President Goodluck Jonathan in asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit aimed at preventing Jonathan from contesting in the 2027 presidential elections. The suit was filed by Abuja-based lawyer Johnmari Jideobi, who argued that Jonathan is ineligible based on constitutional provisions.

Jideobi contended that Jonathan had exhausted his constitutional limit after serving a full term following the death of Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. The court proceedings included a request for the judge to recuse himself from the matter, with Jideobi alleging that the court had shortened the time required for replies.

Jonathan's lawyer, Chief Chris Uche, sought the dismissal of the suit, citing previous judgments that support their position. The case has been adjourned until May 26 for a ruling on the recusal application and the main suit.
