Court Sets May 15 to Hear Suit Against Jonathan's Candidacy

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, has scheduled a hearing for May 15 regarding a suit filed by lawyer Johnmari Jideobi. The suit seeks to prevent former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting in the 2027 presidential election.

The case was postponed due to the absence of the plaintiff's lawyer, who failed to inform the court. The defendants include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney General of the Federation.

Jonathan's legal representative, Chris Uche, has requested the court to dismiss the suit for lack of diligence. The plaintiff claims Jonathan has already exhausted his constitutional limit by completing the full terms of late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and serving a full term after the 2011 election.

The suit aims to uphold the supremacy of the constitution and prevent Jonathan from being nominated by any political party for the upcoming election.
