Arewa Think Tank Cautions Against Fuel Subsidy Promises

Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the Convener of Arewa Think Tank (ATT), warned Nigerians to be cautious of politicians promising to restore the petrol subsidy before the 2027 general elections. He emphasized the need for sustainable funding sources if the subsidy were reinstated, highlighting that since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu removed the subsidy, state governments have managed to pay salaries and fulfill other obligations.

Yakubu advised Nigerians to critically evaluate campaign promises, labeling them as unrealistic. He urged the public to allow President Tinubu to complete his two terms to solidify the economic foundation he has begun.

Additionally, Yakubu commended efforts to revive the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, noting its significance for Nigeria's industrial development. He also called on foreign countries, particularly the United Kingdom, to reconsider travel advisories that may create unnecessary tension regarding Nigeria's safety, especially as the 2027 elections approach.

Furthermore, he urged religious leaders to refrain from statements that could escalate political tensions.
