Atiku Abubakar to Announce Amaechi as Running Mate

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is set to unveil Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election within the week. This decision comes after extensive consultations regarding the strategic selection of a candidate from the South East or South West, but ultimately favors Amaechi from the South South.

The ADC leadership believes that selecting Amaechi, who has a significant political network established during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State and as a former Minister of Transport, will enhance the party's appeal and attract crucial votes. The choice is also seen as a move to avoid internal divisions that weakened opposition efforts in the 2023 elections.

Although the announcement was initially delayed due to Atiku's brief trip abroad, it is expected to occur by the end of the week. Amaechi's credentials, including his past role as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, are believed to strengthen the candidacy.
