Amaechi Confident of ADC Ticket Against Atiku for 2027

Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transport and Governor of Rivers State, expressed confidence in securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 elections. In an interview with Trust TV on Monday night, he stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has consistently won party primaries, will fail to convert this into a presidential victory.

Amaechi argued that this would be the first time Atiku would fail in the primaries, emphasizing that he presents a fresh option for voters. He praised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, stating that Nigeria would be better governed under him than Bola Tinubu, whom he accused of promoting ethnic considerations.

Amaechi also criticized Tinubu's tribalist approach compared to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom he described as a huge nationalist. He called for national unity and addressed grievances in the South East, advocating for equal opportunities and improved educational infrastructure across Nigeria.

The ADC's presidential primaries are scheduled for May 25, 2026.
