Atiku Abubakar Declares 2027 Presidential Bid

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has declared his intention to contest in the 2027 presidential election, marking his seventh attempt for the nation's highest office. Political analysts predict that this could be his final bid, as he has faced multiple defeats in previous elections.

During a television interview, Atiku expressed confidence in his candidacy, stating that he believes he will be able to compete effectively. However, Bayo Onanuga, a spokesperson for the current president, advised Atiku against pursuing this ambition, arguing that it violates the established power rotation principles between northern and southern Nigeria.

Onanuga highlighted Atiku's past failures, including his defeat in the 2023 elections, and criticized his claims regarding power distribution between the regions. Atiku's political journey began in 1993, and he has made several attempts to secure the presidency since then, including runs in 2007, 2011, 2019, and 2023, all of which ended in defeat.
