ADC Leadership Dispute Intensifies Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is embroiled in a leadership dispute as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is urged to recognize the faction led by David Mark over that of Nafiu Bala Gomb. Following a court ruling on March 12, 2026, which preserved the status quo, the ADC is preparing for the 2027 general elections.

The conflict intensified after Ralph Okei Nwosu, the former chairman, resigned, leading to a series of legal challenges. Nafiu Bala Gomb filed a case against the ADC, seeking to restrain Mark's faction from acting as leaders.

The Federal High Court in Abuja did not grant Gomb's request, and the appeal court awarded N2 million in costs to Mark's group. As the ADC gears up for its congress scheduled for April 14, 2026, INEC has received letters urging it to cease recognizing Gomb's faction pending the court's decision.
